Every rental on Chat’nRent follows the same four-stage handover. Nothing is released without a code, and nothing is charged before the owner accepts.
Message and agree
Ask what you need to ask, propose your own price if the dates are quiet, then pick your window. Booked days are struck out, so you can only ask for time that exists.
Owner accepts
Instant-book items confirm in seconds. Everything else gets a reply within 4 hours, or the hold is released automatically.
Swap the code
You each read out a six-digit code at pickup — or on arrival, if you booked a person. That's the moment cover starts and the clock begins, not before.
Close it out
Scan the return code, or mark the job done. Deposits are released the same day, people are paid within 24 hours, and you both leave a rating.

List a thing you own or the hours you can spare. You set the rate — hourly or daily — the deposit and the days you're unavailable. Chat’nRent takes 8% only when a booking actually completes: no listing fee, no monthly fee, no charge for cancellations you didn't cause.

What happens when something goes wrong
Most rentals are uneventful. These are the things that hold when they aren't.
Government ID on both sides
Owners and renters upload a government photo ID before their first handover. Verified profiles carry a mark you can see on every listing.
Damage cover up to $18,000
Choose Basic, Plus or Full at checkout. Full covers accidental damage, theft during the rental and a replacement item where one exists nearby.
Deposits held, never spent
The deposit sits in escrow and is released the day the item comes back. Owners can't touch it; we can't either without a filed claim.
Disputes read by a human
Photos are timestamped at pickup and return. If you disagree, a reviewer compares both sets and answers within 72 hours.
